Jerusalem Ultimate

Wednesday we had some free time in between classes, so we went out into the city. We walked out to West Jerusalem until we found a field worthy of playing Ultimate Frisbee.

Unfortunately, the field was a hill - uneven, rocky, and yet most wonderful. We played a good game of Ultimate in the middle of Jerusalem, and the only hard part was that every other point, we had to run uphill. There was a music school nearby where we all heard a young trumpet player practicing...I should have gone to see what was inside...but I didn't.

Eventually, after Ultimate and an altered version of duck duck goose and Ninja Destruction, we decided that it was lunch time. The groups split up, but Lawrence, Donovan, Greg H, Michelle, Celeste, Kiya, Neal, and I went further into West Jerusalem to get lunch. On the way, Donovan stopped a man to ask for directions. As it turns out, he was David Resnick, who is the architect of the BYU Jerusalem Center! Crazy!

I had my first shwarma for lunch! I split it with Kiya...it's delicious. Basically, it's lamb, hummus, and whatever else you request wrapped up in a giant pita. This meal is deliciousness and happiness in every bite.

Of course the best part of the meal was when I bought a giant bottle of Orange Juice to share with everyone, and what happened? Nothing. I poured a few cups of Orange Juice, set them on the table, and went back to eating shwarma. Then I reached for my glass...and knocked them all over. It was only two of them...but then I cleaned up that mess and poured some more. Then I did it again...by this time we have a newspaper on the table to attempt to absorb some of the great mess I've just created, all my friends are laughing/not knowing how to react to my clumsiness, and I am sitting there attempting to live with my embarrassment.

So, after I picked up my injured dignity and tried to dust it off, we went to get some ice cream. Then, we tested out the bus system...and were late for class because we didn't know the bus would take that long. Turns out it did...the large group of us wrote an apology note to our professor...I felt incredibly bad.

You live and you learn, right?
